Today, we're diving into a game-changing concept that didn't just spring up overnight, and it's not solely a product of the pandemic. Sure, the COVID-19 lockdowns opened our eyes to the possibilities of a hybrid workplace, but some pioneers have been championing this approach for much longer.
Back in 1992, long before virtual work was considered "cool," I embarked on a journey as a virtual worker. Picture this: I was labeled a "homemaker" while simultaneously managing a multi-million dollar production business with my partner right from a closet-turned-office.
Armed with a fax machine, a telephone system boasting 5 lines within the confines of my home, and an uncanny mastery of FedEx drop-off and delivery schedules, we thrived.
Fast forward to today, with technology on steroids, there's no excuse for the workplace to remain stagnant.
In this article, penned by Joanne Lipman from USA Today, we'll explore how savvy business owners and employers are not only adapting but thriving with this shift, leading to a delightful surprise: increased productivity!

I like to feature folks I network with throughout the month but, I live in Florida and just went through, yet again, another hurricane, Idalia.
Albeit I was spared property damage this time, many of my fellow Floridians did not.
I want to give a shout-out to the incredible work of the many First Responders who do incredible life-saving work without the accolades. The long days and nights focused on human safety are deeply appreciated by me and my family!

Hidden Value: A 3-Part Approach to Hiring High-Potential Employees
|
|
Continuing our Labor Day theme of how our workplace paradigm has changed, our Blog this week focuses on a 3-Step Process on how to attract great talent to your small business enterprise.
The landscape of business is evolving faster than ever before. In the midst of these changes, it's crucial for small businesses to adapt, find innovative ways to operate efficiently, and maximize their potential. One of the keys to success in this new era is not just hiring employees but partnering with individuals who can help you shift economic resources from lower to higher productivity—true entrepreneurs who understand the concept of value creation.
As entrepreneurs, we often find ourselves in a position where we need to do more with less, especially when it comes to hiring. While the allure of seasoned C-level executives with impressive resumes is undeniable, it's not always feasible for smaller businesses.
What's more, in today's rapidly changing world, employees are becoming increasingly comfortable with technology, blurring the lines between traditional roles and creating new opportunities for those who are ready to embrace them.
So, how can we create substantial value with a limited budget? The answer lies in spotting High Potential Employees, or HIPOs, who might have thin resumes but possess untapped talent waiting to flourish.
The article below is a new approach to hiring the best talent out there for your small business evolution!

The Hidden Cost of Being a Hands-on Boss With the Founder of Create & Cultivate, Jaclyn Jones

The Hidden Cost of Being a Hands-on Boss
In 2012, Jaclyn Johnson founded Create & Cultivate, a media company that educates and inspires women to succeed in business.
By 2018, Johnson had grown Create & Cultivate to eight employees when an acquirer offered her a staggering $40 million. Unfortunately, the deal was too good to be true. When the acquirer discovered her hands-on management style, they pulled out.
|
|
|
Learning from her mistakes, Johnson implemented a collection of strategies to ensure Create & Cultivate could thrive without her.
By the end of 2019, Johnson had grown to $14 million in revenue ($4 million EBITDA) when acquirers came knocking again. This time she was ready. Create & Cultivate was acquired by Corridor Capital in a deal valued at $22 million. In this episode, you’ll learn how to:
- Ensure your business can succeed without you.
- Build a thriving online community.
- Create partnerships with well-known brands.
- Avoid a common error made during due diligence.
- Respond to a shrewd acquirer looking to get your business for a discount.
